“I have never heard a more musical pianist, and his performance of [Beethoven's Sonata for Violin and Piano] 'Spring' is by far the best I have ever heard. This is remarkable considering the many great pianists who have recorded this work.”

 Joseph Magil, American Record Guide

Stefano Ligoratti (Milan, 1986) was one of the most brilliant students of the G. Verdi Conservatory, where he completed his entire musical education, graduating with top honors in Piano, Organ, Harpsichord, Orchestral Conducting, and Composition. He studied Piano with Maria Gloria Ferrari, Riccardo Risaliti, Leonardo Leonardi, and Daniele Lombardi; Organ with Eva Frick Galliera and Ivana Valotti; Harpsichord with Ruggero Laganà and Maria Cecilia Farina; Composition with Paolo Arcà, Danilo Lorenzini, and Mario Garuti; and Orchestral Conducting with Julius Kalmar, Herbert Handt, and Daniele Agiman.

He is a prize-winner of several national and international competitions, including the Castrocaro Competition for the "XI Review of the Best 2006 Graduates (S.I.A.E. Prize)" and the prestigious European piano competition "Mario Fiorentini" in La Spezia. During the latter in January 2010, he won the first prize, the audience prize, and the award for the youngest pianist. As the Artistic Director of the "ClassicaViva" musical network, he frequently conducts the namesake orchestra, which he founded in 2005, often appearing in the dual role of soloist and conductor.

His extensive recording career began with the ClassicaViva label, releasing Variazioni... e dintorni (2007) and Fantasie (2009), followed by Violin in Blue (2010) and Violin in White (2012) in duo with violinist Yulia Berinskaya. For Limen, he recorded Sturm und Drang (2018), again with Berinskaya. His collaboration with Da Vinci Classics has been particularly prolific, including Schubert: Works for Piano 4 hands (2017) with Luca Ciammarughi, The Voice of Violin (2018) as a conductor, and several projects with cellist Matilda Colliard, such as Beethoven: Complete Works for Cello & Piano (2019) and Brahms: Cello Sonatas (2023). He also completed the Beethoven: Complete Sonatas for Violin & Piano in a three-CD set with Berinskaya between 2020 and 2021, and recorded Liszt: 14 Lieder for Voice & Piano (2021) with soprano Monika Lukacs. More recently, he published the first volume of Cosimo Carovani’s complete piano works for Sconfinarte (2022). His latest releases include an unreleased recording of Brahms' cello sonatas for Amadeus magazine with Carovani (May 2025) and a CD of Anton Rubinstein’s cello sonatas for Brilliant Classics with Matilda Colliard (December 2025).

From 2013 to 2024, he served as the director of the orchestral training course in association with the Italian Conducting Academy (ICA) under Maestro Gilberto Serembe. Between 2014 and 2018, he was the Associate Director of the Orchestra of the University of Milan (UniMi) and was subsequently appointed Principal Director of the Ensemble Accademico UniMi. Since February 2014, he has also been a guest conductor at the National Opera and Ballet Theater of Tirana, leading productions such as Così fan tutte, La Sylphide, and Coppélia.

In 2018, he collaborated on the animated series Max & Maestro, co-produced by Rai Ragazzi, France Télévisions, and HR, performing the musical parts for the protagonist alongside Daniel Barenboim. He is also highly active as a producer and musical assistant, collaborating with prestigious orchestras like OSCOM, the G. Verdi Symphony Orchestra, and I Pomeriggi Musicali, alongside conductors such as Claus Peter Flor, Andrey Boreyko, and Jader Bignamini. In December 2023, he was awarded the Premio delle Arti e della Cultura in Milan.

Since January 2024, he has been a Professor of Score Reading at the 'G. Verdi' Conservatory in Turin.
